Why everyone with special interests in spinal rehabilitation should attend this course...

Spine pain affects over 80% of our population at some stage in their life. 16% of Australians (or 1 in 6) report having current back problems. Back pain and problems were the third leading cause of disease burden overall, accounting for 4.2% of Australia’s total disease burden. It cost the Australian health system an estimated $3.4 billion in 2019–20, representing 23% of disease expenditure on musculoskeletal conditions and 2.4% of total health expenditure.

Most back pain episodes settle well and with minimal intervention. Some require varying amounts of conservative care; unfortunately, a few people require serious interventions, sometimes including spinal surgery. The better we understand all aspects of spinal care, the more we can help reduce the number of serious interventions required and the severity of those interventions.

Spinal stability/instability is commonly discussed but poorly understood amongst all levels of health professionals. The rise of systems and exercise approaches to improve our “core” has been astounding and, in many ways, very beneficial to the population, but as always, a generalist paintbrush approach is non-specific and sadly, many patients suffering spinal instability and multifidus dysfunction are misunderstood and poorly managed.

The research into this field is ongoing and evolving. This masterclass will fill the gaps in knowledge and understanding, provide the latest evidence in a simple summarised format, teach the validated tests to accurately assess spinal stability and multifidus function, and provide targeted approaches to address their specific needs.

The program follows stage-based rehabilitation strategies using minimal equipment to support patients all the way through their journey to improved function.

This is the only course of its kind and one not to be missed if you want to get ahead and advance your knowledge in spinal rehabilitation.

Supporting research and evidence.

What will you take away from the course?

  1. In-Depth Understanding: Delve into the theory, explore the latest evidence, and get an answer to the fundamental question: "What is spinal instability?"
  2. Practical Learning: Gain hands-on knowledge in evidence-based assessment, managing common acute on chronic presentations and understand the nuances of rehab programming across different stages. Also learn about the latest low dose 3D EOS imaging available to allied health professionals to better understand postural alignment and its influence on spinal dysfunction.
  3. Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Learn how to effectively collaborate with surgeons and specialists for optimal patient outcomes.
  4. Q&A Session: An interactive wrap-up session to clarify doubts and reinforce learning.
  5. Networking: An opportunity to meet and connect with like-minded professionals from various disciplines.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Gain a deep understanding of spinal instability and its implications in patient care.
  • Master the validated tests and assessments used to determine spinal stability, including the physiological tests, and the influence of spinal alignment.
  • Develop expertise in creating effective rehab programs for early, intermediate, and advanced stages of patient recovery.
  • Understand the need and process for collaboration with surgeons and specialists. Learn about what they want to know from you when collaborating.
